In German or English - One Great Fred Movie

This extremely rare German first release, one-sheet movie poster was originally issued by the German distributor of Noch Zimmer Frei (The Notorious Landlady -1962). Set in London, this off-beat comedy-mystery was directed by Richard Quine with screenplay by Blake Edwards (Julie Andrews’ husband), Larry Gelbart (creator of MASH), and Margery Sharp. It stars Kim Novak, Jack Lemmon, and one of our most favorite Freds, Fred Astaire.

The movie scenario goes like this: Lemmon is an American diplomat in London, seen regularly around town with Novak, who, it's rumored, killed her husband. Astaire is Lemmon's disapproving superior who orders Lemmon to spy on her but is later also won over by her charms. Hilarity ensues when the supposedly-dead husband returns.

While no one here at Fredquarters has seen the movie (though we did watch The Big Lebowski 12 times!), it received a 2 1/2 star rating in the Leonard Maltin 2002 Video and Movie Guide. Of course Maltin gave Ishtar 5 stars, so we suggest you see this one for yourself - preferably the English version.
