We Miss You Fred
8/1/74 to 9/11/01
We received this email after 9/11/01 from Annelise, Freds girlfriend:
I must tell you that my beloved Frederick John Cox is no longer with us. Fred, along with his preferred FRED Society notepads left us on September 11th on the 104th Floor, tower two in the World Trade Center. He was an employee of Sandler O'Neill and was very proud of his FRED Society status. Fred was a man that would make any Fred proud to share the name Fred.
To know Frederick John Cox was to love him. His passion for life was intoxicating; his charisma, unparalleled. On August 1st, 2001, Fred turned 27 years of age. Employed by Sandler O'Neill, Frederick was on his way to being the best bond salesman at the firm. Sandler O'Neill provides investment banking services to small banks and thrifts that are often ignored by the bigger firms on Wall Street. Fred loved his job as it provided him with the opportunity to travel and meet extremely intelligent and successful individuals around the country.
Fred made things happen for himself. Standing 6'5," Fred devoured the simple pleasures that life had to offer and it was apparent though the mischevious glimmer in his electrifying green eyes. Although Wall Street can sometimes toy with a person's sense of priority, Fred always knew that family and loved ones came first. His father was his "best friend." His mother was his "heart."
Knowing Fred and the love that he unconditionally gave me provides me with the strength to proceed with a life without his physical presence. Fred's friends and I giggle about our first encounter with the individual with the name of "Frederick." I must admit, I thought that it sounded a little geeky to be dating a guy named Frederick. I pictured someone in glasses and suspenders when he first introduced himself on the phone. I was so out-of-line! Fred was a masterpiece both physically and mentally. He was always proud to be a Fred. He never gave in to the pressures that some Freds do by referencing to themselves as "Rick." In fact, we had agreed to name our first girl Frederique.
We were told by Annelise that Fred had a FRED Society postcards taped to the back of his office chair....the one with the sign in the desert that read "Fred Lives. And we know its true, Frederick John Cox lives in the hearts of his family, friends and all the Freds that have been touched by his story.
"It is the most calming place. I will listen for him between the wind and lapping water and in every crying loon...for it is where I believe He is."
