A Fred from North of the Border

Fred Costin hails from Ottawa, Canada, and is a 28-year veteran of the Gloucester Police Force there. He's also a charter member of the FRED Society That's him in the lower left-hand corner of the poster that greets tourists at the Ottawa Airport, proudly honoring the 150th year of policing in that fair city. Roll you mouse over the photo to highlight Fred.

Like many of his fellow Freds, Mr. Costin is a humble man. "I do not have much to tell about myself," he writes in a recent e-mail to the Head Fred. "I was born, raised and educated in Ottawa. I was named after my grandfather on my father's side."

Fred joined the Gloucester Police Force at the age of 20. He worked in several areas including Patrol, Community Services (Schools, Block Parents, Special Events), as a Patrol Division Team Sergeant, in the Detective Division and overseeing the Communications Division and clerical staff. Prior to his retirement, the Force was amalgamated with the Ottawa Police Force.

It will come to no surprise that Fred is a baseball fan, volunteering as the team security officer for a junior baseball team and the proud holder of season tickets for the Triple "A" Ottawa Lynx of the International League. And in his spare time? Fred says his hobbies include darts, a bit of golf and, you guessed it, "going to baseball games."
