A Case of Mistaken Identity
While Fred Krueger has always had an interest in show business, he never thought it would end up being a nightmare! But that’s what happened when the “Nightmare on Elm St.” movie and sequels, starring that diabolical cut-up Freddie Krueger, resulted in our Fred getting harassed for having the same name. “We began to get these late night crank calls,” Fred says, with callers threatening and saying things like, “we know where you live, you baby-killer!” Fred says that his wife was terrified and, “I wasn’t exactly thrilled either, so we had the name changed in the telephone book to R.F. Krueger.” Fortunately, as the series’ popularity decreased, so did the calls.
When not dodging crank callers, Fred is a talented graphic artist with a company called Merestone, located in Scottsdale, Arizona, where he designs sets a nd displays for conventions, trade shows, business theater, themed parties, staging lighting sound...”all that good show biz stuff,” as he calls it. Fred was born in Paris, Texas, but his family moved to Arizona in 1959 and he has been here ever since (minus a tour of Italy during his time in the Army in the late 1960s).
Fred has been an artist for most of his life (he has an MFA from Arizona State University) and has been with Merestone for 22-years. In his spare time, Fred says that he “likes hiking, camping, sometimes downhill snow skiing, fishing, travel, artwork (of course!), good music, good times and spirits and good friends.” And no, he does not like entering people’s dreams and terrorizing them while they sleep. That’s that other Fred Krueger who, by the way, isn’t even a member of the Fred Society. We’re glad to have this Fred Krueger as a member and a loyal Friend of the Freds.
