A Special Fred Crusader
It was a sad day here at FredQuarters when Fred Wittow's daughter Susan sent the news - her father, Fred Wittow had passed away. Fred was a charter member in The FRED Society and a tireless promoter and crusader for the club. "Fred was always contacting me, asking for Fred Society promotional products," the Head Fred remembers. "He passed them out whenever he met a Fred." And he met LOTS of Freds. He directed many Freds to our club over the years.
Fred Wittow was born on June 9, 1932, in Youngstown, Ohio, and married Shirley on Oct. 9, 1954. He was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather and leaves behind three children and eight grandchildren. What! No Grand Freds?
Fred graduated from The Rayen School and attended Youngstown College. He worked at Cool-Ray Awnings/Rosenblum Brothers until 1967, when he started Custom Home Service, which he operated successfully until its sale and his retirement in 2000.
Fred touched many lives with his kind heart, positive energy and good humor. He was an active member of The FRED Society, Girard-Liberty Rotary Club. After retirement, Fred enjoyed volunteering for SCORE, Meals on Wheels, Goodwill Reading for the Blind, Goodwill Amblyopic Testing for Children, Red Cross, Wick Park Tennis Instruction, Children’s Rehabilitation Services, Packard Museum, Someplace Safe for Women and many other organizations. Fred was a member of Temple El Emeth and Congregation Ohez Tzedek and a former board member of Anshe Emeth Temple.
Fred enjoyed his many friends and family, playing tennis and traveling, especially with his wife of 54 years, who preceded him in death. He appreciated new friends and Freds, too.
Charitable contributions in Fred’s honor may be made to SCORE of Youngstown, Ohio or Girard-Liberty Rotary Club.
Thanks to Fred Wittow for all his support through all the years. He will be missed. May the Fred be with you!
