This affront came from the Long Beach Press-Telegram which ran a feature about “dud street names such as Fred.” It seems one couple nearly didn’t buy their home because it was on Fred Drive. “It’s a fine street and we have great neighbors. It’s just the name of the street being Fred,” a woman was quoted as saying.

At least this story has a happy ending. “It’s not that Fred is such an awful name,” the homeowner admitted. “But whenever I tell anybody what street we live on they say, ‘Fred, as in Flintstone?’ I say, “No. Fred as in Frederic Chopin, the great composer.”
