The FRED Society began in 1984 when a young graphic artist named Fred Daniel (today known as the 'Head Fred'), decided he was fed up with the way Freds were always being portrayed as incompetent, bungling caveman-types on television and in the media. Instead, he envisioned a world where all Freds would be treated fairly and with the honor and respect due individuals with such a fine and noble moniker. And that went for Fredricas and Winifreds too!
From a 1986 cover story in the LA Times 'View' section, a guest appearance on NBC’s 'Leeza Gibbons Show' in 1998, a radio interview with Howard Stern in 2000 and international coverage in Maxim Magazine in 2001, The FRED Society is still a newsmaker years after its inception. Most recently, The FRED Society achieved immortality when it was included as one of the questions in the latest version of Parkers Brothers 'Trivial Pursuit, Genus IV.'
Today, the dream is coming true as thousands of Freds and Friends of the Freds have become card-carrying FRED Society members, dedicated to preserving, upholding and defending the honorable name of FRED. So come on! Raise up your Fred voices...stand and be counted with the Fred few, the Fred proud and the Fred brave. Join The FRED Society today!
The FRED Society Credo: We, the members of The FRED Society, are dedicated to preserving and upholding the honorable name of Fred for all posterity. We will sing the praises and condemn the misuses of the name Fred via press, radio, television, the internet and the wearing of funny t-shirts. We pledge always to be FRED & PROUD!
