Shake 'Em On Down, Live in New York: Mississippi Fred McDowell

This blues classic was the last recorded album of Fred McDowell and has become a tribute to one of America's greatest bluesman. He was nicknamed "Shake 'Em" by his family and friends in admiration of his ability to get even the most tired feet a jumpin' when he played his songs. He was well over sixty years of age when before he was able to quit farming and devote his time and energy to music and his concert appearances. Fred died from severe abdominal ulcers on July 3, 1972. Music writer and friend Tom Pomosello told us, "The things Fred achieved as an artist - the people whom he touched through his music and those of us who were lucky enough to know him personally and be taken under the spell of his 'Mississippi mystique' - are the things which account for a far greater testimonial than anyone can ever put down on paper, because they're written in people's hearts."
