When all else fails, squeeze your Fred (and Ed)!
If you've ever been to Holland, you know the Dutch do three things really well: tasty beer (Heineken), beautiful cities (Amsterdam) and crazy artists (Van Gogh). Oh, and let's not forget chocolate. Some of the tastiest, richest chocolate comes from the land of windmills. And now, so does "Fred & Ed."
According to long-time Fred Society member and Holland native Fred Voogt (who not only told us about "Fred & Ed" but sent samples to the Head Fred), a Dutch food producer came up with the idea of mixing jam (strawberry and apricot), peanut butter, something called chocolate-duo paste and hazelnut paste into a yummy concoction that is then injected into multi-colored squeeze tubes. Fred says the result is "tasteful, hygienic and handy on bread, sandwiches and pancakes." The Head Fred says, "Man this stuff is sweet! Hand me another tube."

Not only is "Fred & Ed" the name of the product, but it is also two "lovable" cartoon characters that closely resemble...well, we can't really tell what they resemble. But we do know that they help sell the product to Dutch children, and that Fred is bigger than Ed. If you'd like to see Fred and Ed in action, log on to http://www.fred-and-ed.com. We found the website a bit confusing, but then we don't speak Dutch.
As soon as the Head Fred recovers from the sugar shock he suffered after sucking empty all the tubes in one sitting, he plans to try and import "Fred & Ed" by the truckload.
A big thanks to Fred Voogt for telling us about this delicious spread and for sending the delicious samples.
"Bedankt voor de zoete van Holland!" |
