Frederick Richardson: Illustrator Extraordinaire


Old Old Tales Retold: The Best Loved Folk Stories for Children, is a rare collection of fairytales and other children’s stories published in 1923 by M.A. Donohue and Company of Chicago, IL. It features the captivating illustrations of artist Frederick Richardson. While biographical information on Richardson is a bit scarce, we do know he was born in 1862 and died in 1937. He illustrated other children’s books including Little Peachling, published in 1928 by Chicago’s Volland Publishing, and some of his original artwork hangs in the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, MO. The illustrations in this book are striking and bring to life the familiar tales of The Little Red Hen, The Three Little Pigs, The Three Bears and many others delightful stories.
