Fred P. Ott - Inventor's Assistant, Actor
In October of 1894 when Thomas Edison was testing his new invention, the motion picture camera, Edison's assistant, Fred P. Ott, known for his loud and decisive sneezes, became the first actor in the world's first movie titled, 'Record of a Sneeze.' The movie included sound effects on phonograph synchronized with the film. Mr. Ott also starred in a second movie called 'Fred Ott Holding a Bird.' Unfortunately, you won't find either one of these films in your local video rental store.
Thanks to long time member, Fred Maxwell for informing us about this film. It is the earliest surviving film registered for copyright. Fred also told us to that Thomas Edison gave his assistant, Fred Ott, a pinch of snuff to cause this historic aspiration.
Fred P. Ott made movie making history. A obscure Fred Fact that is nothing to sneeze at!
