Fred Meyer's Fred Choice Sodas
Field of Peeves

The media is certainly not our massage. This outrage came from member Fred Hard via The Oregonian newspaper. The news story described a new Pepsi Cola Company ad campaign designed to unify Pepsi and Diet Pepsi as a single brand. 'One spot,' the story reads, "based on ‘Field of Dreams,’ attacks private-label soft drinks. A man’s ghostly father emerges from a corn field, only to return there when given a cheaper ‘Fred’s Choice Cola’ instead of Pepsi." That just leaves a bad taste in the mouths of all Freds!

We always thought the soda was ficticious and was just a prop in a tv commercial until longtime FRED Society member, Fred Vladova sent us six pack of the actual soda (pictured here). We were overjoyed! An actual soda with our name displayed proudly! The Head Fred tried for years to located the soda, but never did.

Fast forward several years: We just found out from a FOF (Friend of the Freds), Shawn LaMar, she thinks this soda use to be sold by Fred Meyer Stores (Northwest U.S.). She doesn't think they sell it anymore. "Fred's soda wasn't chic enough and it also didn't distinguish the brand from Sam's Choice (Walmart's soda)." So it looks like that space we left in the reFredgerator will not be filed...at least with 'Fred Choice' sodas...perhaps (Fred) Miller light?
