Wayne and Fred!

In 1962, while at Capitol, Fred started Fred Rice Productions which won many awards. One was the Western Heritage Award from the National Cowboy Hall of Fame for 'Appaloosa,' an outstanding western documentary film narrated by actor Dale Robertson that Fred produced.

Other projects included various television specials: 'Bobby Troupe’s Hollywood Record Room,' 'Stan Kenton’s - My World is Music,' 'Platterbrains,' '?Ray Anthony’s Stars of Sound,' 'The Art of Ellington,' 'Shrimpenstein' and 'The Story of Christmas with Tennessee Ernie Ford and the Roger Wagner Chorale.' Fred also produced a television series called 'Johnny Mocassin' starring Joel McCrea and started 'Startime Records,' where he produced, wrote and published hundreds of songs.

If that’s not enough, in his 'spare time,' Fred became a solar energy advocate and an energy conservationist. He developed solar devices never before contemplated. He designed solar panels, photovoltaic cells, solar-powered security alarm system, clocks, radios and televisions. He also produced a children’s coloring book called 'The Energy Conservation Primer' designed to teach youngsters the value of energy conservation.
